Our Mission: To promote human development through access to technology.
We believe in the power of technology to drive extraordinary change. There is great potential for people to use technology to improve their livelihoods, but it must be properly harnessed—incorporated into each community's social, cultural, historic, economic, and political context.
'Insert Drum Role'
After an excellent round of Junior Fellow applications and interviews, the University of Waterloo chapter has decided to send two Junior Fellows overseas for Summer 2009. Please extend your congratulations to Gajan Sathananthan and Rob Sparrow! To learn more about the Junior Fellowship program visit http://www.ewb.ca/en/whatyoucando/volunteer/juniorfellow.html. Stay tuned for updates from Gajan and Rob about what they're doing and where you can read about their experience over the summer.
We will be holding elections on Tuesday November 25 at 5:30pm in RCH 307, so anyone interested in taking on a leadership position (President or one of the Vice President positions) is encouraged to send a note of intent to Ben Best by Sunday November 23 (ben.best@gmail.com).
Currently, the following positions are open:
President
VP Education
VP Internal
VP Finance
VP Communications
For a description of these and all VP roles visit the wiki at: http://uwaterloo.ewb.ca/wikis/index.php/VP_Role_Descriptions. Please note that all Executive roles require a minimum two-term commitment.
We ask that all candidates give a short speech to chapter members about their vision for the role (don't worry it doesn't have to be too fancy!). The following questions might help you start thinking:
1. What Executive role are you passionate about?
2. What does Dorothy & the chapter need from this role? (Who's Dorothy?...good question!...to find out, ask around the current EWB exec, or check out myEWB posts such as http://my.ewb.ca/home/ShowPost/26333)
3. What do you uniquely bring to this role?
4. How will this role help you personally develop and grow?
Also, please be aware that you must be a regular (paying) member of EWB UW to vote or to be an executive member of the chapter. This means creating an account on myewb.ca and paying the $20 yearly membership fee. You can pay online or pay on the day of the election. Alternatively you can contact Misa, our membership director (tmisakura@hotmail.com).
Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
There are mad presentations this week happening with EWB's school outreach program. That means lots of chances to volunteer! We're looking for presenters, new and old to help with the presentations. Experienced volunteers will be on hand to do the teaching, but would love to have you there to help run the activity parts.
If you can't make it out this week, do not despair! We're giving presentations every Tuesday and Wednesday morning in November at the McQuarrie Enrichment Centre, as well as workshops at KCI for the next two Fridays. If you don't have time to trek off-campus, we're also visiting the Peace Day at Conrad Grebel on November 19.
